Security systems come in many different styles. Here are the ones we recommend:
Anti-Theft and Intrusion Alarm System
Most burglars spend less than 60 seconds trying to enter a home. If you have good locks and an alarm system, your home is less likely to be a target. An alarm system is a good investment, especially if you have many valuable objects in the house, or if you live in a remote area or a dangerous neighbourhood. When your system is connected to a central station, the police will arrive quickly, sending a dissuasive message to potential criminals that the neighbourhood is watched even when a home’s inhabitants are away. Simply tripping an alarm is often enough to discourage criminals and keep them away.
And intruders don’t only steal your belongings. They can also commit rape, or attack people if surprised while inside or if the homeowners are inside. A person who breaks into a home may show extreme strength and can be seriously threatening to inhabitants in an effort to exert control over them and scare them.
Panic buttons, on their own or when used in conjunction with an anti-theft or intrusion alarm system, can give additional protection to people with poor health or who live on their own. They can be used for personal security in or outside the home. Panic buttons can also be used in case of danger, an intrusion, an aggression, a health scare or if you witness an emergency. You can affix panic buttons on walls or objects or carry a mobile version with you. They can look like a keychain or a piece of jewellery, such as a bracelet, necklace or brooch, for example. Mobile panic buttons can be connected to a fixed base with limited reach located at home or to a monitoring centre.
A good video surveillance system can also help prevent intrusions or, at the very least, help catch criminals who try to get inside your house. You can even monitor your home online.
Fire and Invisible Danger (Gas) Alarm System
In the event of a fire, smoke detectors are the best way to save your life and those of your loved ones. It is recommended to have one smoke detector per storey, including in the basement, and to install them in rooms where people sleep with the door closed. Additionally, if you have a garage attached to your house where there could be carbon monoxide or if you use natural gas or propane in your house, you should also install gas detectors to prevent dangers related to invisible gas leaks. When smoke detectors are connected to a central station, the fire department can respond even faster, particularly if the fire occurs when you’re not home.
Most home security systems can be integrated into automated systems. You can control your fire alarm system and your anti-theft system as well as the other systems in your home.
